87 years ago the first "people's" Volkswagen car was released
German car designer, industrialist Ferdinand Porsche, organized the Porsche design bureau in the spring of 1931, engaged in the development of engines for cars, airplanes, ships.
Porsche's dream was to create a car that would be affordable for the widest segments of the population.
On February 26, 1936, a prototype of the first Volkswagen was released in Stuttgart, Germany, which turned out to be very successful and was soon put into mass production. They started talking about him, numerous publications appeared, and in 1938, in a New York Times article, "Volkswagen" was dubbed a "beetle" for its external resemblance. This nickname has taken root so much that it has become the hallmark of the car.
The first Volkswagen car was unveiled to the public on May 26 1938 at the Berlin Motor Show. Production began later that year, with the first models rolling off the assembly line in 1939.
Today, Volkswagen is one of the largest and most successful car manufacturers in the world, with a diverse lineup of vehicles that includes everything from compact cars to luxury sedans and SUVs. Use the online Volkswagen catalog to find the right parts.
