Volkswagen Group delivers solid nine-month results in a challenging environment; disruptions in production and higher product costs impact third quarter

Volkswagen Group achieved strong deliveries and sales revenue growth in the first nine months of FY 2023. Deliveries increased by 11 percent year-on-year to 6.7 million vehicles (Q3 2023: 2.3 million vehicles; +7.0 percent). Sales revenue grew by 16 percent to 235.1 billion euros (Q3 2023: 78.8 billion euros; +12 percent). The order bank at the end of the third quarter of 2023 remained at a high level of 1.4 million vehicles in Western Europe alone. Net liquidity in the Automotive Division remained very solid at 36.7 billion euros.

Volkswagen Group delivers 45 percent more all-electric vehicles in first 9 months

The Volkswagen Group has systematically continued its transformation in the first nine months of 2023. All-electric deliveries increased by 45 percent to 531,500 vehicles globally, raising the BEV share of total deliveries to 7.9 percent after 6.1 percent in the prior year period. In the third quarter alone, the BEV share climbed to 9.0 percent compared to 6.8 percent one year ago. From January to September, Europe remained the key growth driver with an increase of 61 percent to 341,100 vehicles. BEV deliveries jumped 74 percent to 50,300 units in the USA and surpassed prior year levels in China with an increase of 4 percent to 117,100 units.

Upgrade for the ID.4 and ID.5: new infotainment system with intuitive operation, new electric drive with more power and efficiency

Volkswagen is launching pre-sales for the enhanced ID.4 and ID.5 models. The two electric models will now be offered with a brand new generation of infotainment system and software. In addition, all Pro and GTX versions will feature a new drive system. The high-efficiency drive introduced for the first time for the large ID.7 offers significantly more power together with reduced energy consumption. The combined WLTP range of the ID.4 as a versatile electric SUV is increased to up to 550 kilometres(1) (WLTP) thanks to the new electric drive. The spacious ID.5 SUV coupé will have a range of up to 556 kilometres(1) (WLTP) on one battery charge. Volkswagen offers the optimized models at the same base prices as their predecessors. The price-performance ratio of the ID.4 and ID.5 has thus been significantly improved.

New European battery materials player IONWAY locates first production plant in Nysa, Poland

The newly-founded Brussels-based European EV battery materials producer IONWAY has chosen to build its first CAM production plant in Nysa, Poland, adjacent to Umicore’s existing CAM plant. The JV, backed by Volkswagen Group-owned PowerCo SE and Umicore, is scaling up the EU footprint in the e-mobility business with the ambition to grow its annual production capacity to 160 GWh p.a. by the end of the decade, corresponding to 2.2 m battery-electric vehicle, based on market developments. IONWAY will thus help the European Union achieve its Green Deal ambitions by accelerating the establishment of regional, sustainable, and transparent battery value chains.
